Contains a book, written by Bush, detailing his military service. Describes life in training camps, on military transports and warships, and on beachheads during invasions. Emphasis placed on the comradery shared between Bush and the other nine soldiers on his beach-landing crew, who remained together throughout the war. Includes biographies of the other nine men. Discusses the confusion and carnage present during amphibious invasions on the beaches of Saipan, Lingayen Gulf, and Leyte. Provides logistical details on amphibious landings. Includes accounts of his close brushes with death and protection he ascribed to God. Bush describes the ordeal of having his ship, the U.S.S. Cavalier, nearly sunk by an enemy torpedo. Also included are brief histories of the U.S.S. Cavalier and the U.S.S. Westmoreland. Photographs show Bush in full military dress, with fellow shipmates, and on beachheads with his radio equipment.
